Formerly from San Francisco, Rabbi Wiener directed a social service agency, the Hebrew Free Loan Association, a constituent arm of the San Francisco Jewish Federation, dedicated to assisting people in their struggle to survive personal and family hardships for which he received the Distinguished Service Award from the San Francisco Jewish Community. Prior to serving in this capacity, he was the Executive Director of several congregations most notably, the largest congregation (Reform) in Northern California, Temple Emanu-El. Many aspects of his tenure with Temple Emanu-El are recorded in a book titled “Visions of Reform, written by Fred Rosenbaum and published in 2000 by the Judah Magnes Museum, Berkeley, CA. He also contributed to “The Jews In America” published in 1989 by Collins Publishers, written by David Cohen. Most of his career has been spent in Education and Youth Activities, directing religious schools and working with various national Youth organizations and camps. He studied at Rabbi Jacob Joseph Yeshiva and Mesiftha Tifereth Yerushalayim. He served Beth Tefiloh Congregation (Orthodox), Baltimore, Maryland and Agudas Achim Congregation (Orthodox), Columbus, Ohio His efforts included participation in Life Cycle events and programs to enhance Jewish Family Life. In addition, Rabbi Wiener is involved in innovative approaches to Life and Education programs designed to enhance understanding through involvement in Inter-faith community activities. Using a blend of traditional and Kabbalistic forms, he has written spiritually-oriented liturgies and has presented seminars and articles on Inter-faith relationships. Rabbi Wiener is the Spiritual Leader of the Sun Lakes Jewish Congregation, Sun Lakes, AZ; educator and writer for various publications both local and national. He is a columnist for the National Jewish Post and Opinion and has appeared in the Arizona Republic and contributes Torah Study articles to the Jewish News of Greater Phoenix. He was ordained at the Mesifta Adath Wolkowisk Rabbinical Academy and received his Doctor of Divinty Degree from the Academy. He serves on the faculty as an advisor in Jewish Sociology. www.adasforlife.org
